Abstract

800,455. Syringes. MERCK & CO., Inc. Sept. 6, 1955 [Sept. 15, 1954], No. 25538/55. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XVII] A syringe unit comprises two containers 1, 5, one of which has a nozzle 2 insertable into the nozzle 6 of the other, the two nozzles forming a spigot-and-socket joint which is moisture-tight and airtight and provides a passageway between the interiors of the containers, one of which is squeezable to eject the contents when separated from the other. A collapsible container 1 for a solid, powdered or crystalline ingredient is made of tin, tin-coated lead, aluminium or plastic and has a rigid nozzle 2. A resilient container 5 for a liquid ingredient is made of rubber or polyethylene and has a rigid nozzle 6. After removing a cap (not shown) from each nozzle 2, 6, one nozzle 2 is fitted into the other nozzle 6, the nozzles having complementary tapers. The resilient container 5 is squeezed to eject liquid into the collapsible container 1. On release, the resilient container 5 assumes its initial form to draw the ingredients into it, the final mixture being injected from either container when separated from the other. A hypodermic needle may be provided in the nozzle of either container.
