[Also in Group XVI] The application of liquid to a ribbon 14 is effected by a transfer roller 13 which is supplied with liquid from a wick 12 having a portion 12a which is impregnated with a substance so that it has a smaller capillarity and greater resistance to compression than the body portion of the wick inside the supply container 22. The container 22 may be a transparent fluted cylinder which is filled and hermetically sealed until fitted to a machine This is done by filling the container with heated liquid and sealing a closure cap 23 into a recessed top of the container. The end of a tube 11 guiding the wick from the container to the roller 13 has a cutaway part 28 which, until the inker is fitted to the machine, is sealed by a cap 29. The portion 12a of the wick is made with the smaller capillarity by treating with a plastic material such as acrylic resin. Specification 809,502, [Group XVI], is referred to.
