Abstract

808,961. Aerials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., GRIFFITH, G. W. S., and HICKIN, E. M. Sept. 20, 1957 [June 22, 1956], No. 19488/56. Class 40 (7). An aerial assembly comprises an aerial system and a device, which does not form part of the aerial system, mounted on a mast and so arranged that the torque on the mast resulting from a cross-wind acting on the assembly is less than the torque that would result from the same wind acting on the aerial system alone. The assembly is normally designed so that the aerial system lies on one side of the mast and the device lies on the other side. The accompanying Figure shows such an assembly, the aerial system being an helical aerial 3 and a flat plate 1, and the device 7 being a planar grid of bars. Side plates 8 are shown in this embodiment and serve to reduce the torque still further for winds having a low angle of incidence on the plate 1. The Specification also describes an embodiment employing a corner reflectortype aerial system.
