[Also in Group IX] In a fibre-blending apparatus (see Group IX), the rate of feed of each of two or more laps of different fibre is adjusted in response to variation in weight of fibre to maintain a predetermined quantity of fibre per unit length of the lap. As shown in Fig. 1, a variable speed conveyer 25 delivers a lap on to a constant speed weighing conveyer 26 the upper run of which passes over a vertically-movable roller 28 serving as the equivalent of a scale-pan on an automatic weighing machine 29. Movement of the machine 29 in response to unacceptable variation in the quantity of fibre on the conveyer 26 rocks a contact arm 36, Fig. 7, to energize one or other of relays 40 and 41 to connect both resistances 44 and 45 in series with a motor 47 (driving the conveyer 25) or to short circuit both resistances (resistance 45 only normally remaining in circuit) so that the speed of the motor is correctively adjusted.
