Abstract
808,402. Thermal switches. STEVENS MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Feb. 5, 1957, No. 3948/57. Class 38 (5). In a thermostat having an operating temperature adjusting screw 38 which also acts as an "on-off" switch, a resilient detent 51 mounted on the base 12 co-operates with a bar 47 on the adjusting screw to provide tactile indication of the " off " position. In the " off " position as shown, the bar 47 abuts a stop 57 on the nut 36 carrying the adjusting screw and a porcelain tip 39 on the adjusting screw holds the contacts 27, 28 apart. When the adjusting screw, which has a left-hand thread, is turned clockwise to a position corresponding to the required operating temperature, the bar 47 moves past the detent 51 and the tip 39 retracts to allow the contacts to close. As the bi-metallic strip 16 moves the contact strip 14 carrying the contact 27, the contact 28 follows it until at the operating temperature the contact strip 15 carrying the contact 28 abuts the tip 39 and the contacts are opened.
