Abstract

807,997. Electron multipliers. TWENTIETH CENTURY ELECTRONICS Ltd., JENNINGS, A. E., and MISSO, C. E. F. Nov. 2, 1956 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 34242/55. Class 39(1). The dynodes P, Fig. 3, of an electron multiplier are of the venetian blind type, the inclined slats 2 being so disposed that each dynode is not opaque when viewed orthogonally, but two consecutive dynodes together are opaque. Electrons can thus pass directly through not more than one dynode. The depth d of each slat is approximately equal to the distance between them, and the slats are inclined at 37¢ degrees to the dynode plane. In Fig. 4 (not shown) actual dimensions are given. In the arrangement of Fig. 5, only a part of each slat is inclined out of the dynode plane. This enables the required conditions of opacity to be obtained with an angle of inclination greater than 37¢ degrees so increasing the extraction efficiency.
