Abstract
805,847. Fishing drogues. ARCHER, P. W. Jan. 31, 1957 [Sept. 3, 1956], No. 26860/56. Class 48. A device 1 for use in float fishing has minimum and maximum drag surfaces mutually at right angles and is provided with means for securing it to the cast 9 between float and sinker so that in use the minimum drag surface lies substantially at right angles to the cast and the maximum drag surface is directly opposed to the current flow. The device shown in Fig. 1 has a forward plate 2 and a stabilizing fin 3 extending at right angles therefrom. The cast 9 passes through a slit 4 in the fin 3 and through holes 5, 6 in the forward plate. Slits 7, 8 lead from the holes 5, 6 to the edge of the forward plate. In another construction the device is z-shaped as seen from the float and the line passes through holes in the central portion and is secured thereto by tongues cut therein. The device shown in Fig. 3 has a forward plate 15 and a rear plate 16 joined together by side plates 17. The forward plate has a large hole and the rear plate a small hole. The cast passes through holes 5, 6 in the front plate and is attached thereto by tongues 13, 14. In a modification the hole in the front plate is square and the hole in the rear plate is vertically elongated. In another construction the device is a cylinder of circular or oval section and the cast is attached to the surface in a direction parallel to the axis. The cylinder may have vertical fins or the cylinder may be corrugated. In a further construction the device comprises two arcuate fins joined together back-to-back. The device may be transparent, opaque or coloured.
