805,211. Animal feeding appliances. KLUYSSE, G. D. Sept. 4, 1957 [Sept. 4, 1956], No. 26993/56. Class 5(2). An animal feeding device comprises a hopper 1 integral with a trough 2, the hopper being provided with a trap door 3 at its outlet and with a retractable partition 17 spaced above the trap door, whereby, when the trap door opens, only that amount of food which is between the trap door and the partition falls into the trough. The trap door 3 is pivotally mounted on a horizontal spindle 4 which passes through slots 5 in the sides of the hopper and through bores in vertical support rods 6 and 7 outside the hopper, the rods 6 and 7 being capable of vertical displacement so that the level of the spindle 4 may be varied within the limits imposed by the slots 5. The retractable slide 17 is mounted in a horizontal slot in the front of the hopper and is provided at each end with a rack 24, the rack cooperating with pinions 19 mounted on a rod 20 so that when the rod is rotated by means of its cranked handle 22 the partition can be moved out of the hopper to allow food to fall on to the trap door 3 when the latter is closed, and can then be moved back into the hopper to prevent the main bulk of the food from escaping when the door 3 is opened. The trap door is opened or closed by means of a handle mounted at one end of the spindle 4, a device being provided for locking the handle in its closed position when necessary, and at the other end of the spindle 4 a bar 11 is mounted, the bar 11 resting on another bar 58 fixed to a rod 56 which is connected by a chain 12 to a water cistern mounted above the roof of the hopper, so that as the spindle 4 is turned to open the trap door 3, the resultant downward movement of the bar 11 causes the cistern to discharge water through the vertical pipe 28 to the perforated horizontal pipe 30 mounted above the trough, with the result that food and water are discharged into the trough simultaneously.
