Abstract
804,409. Core constructions. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 22, 1956 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 35796/56. Class 35. A dynamo-electric machine rotor comprises a cylindrical core 12 formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinally extending parallel sided non-undercut slots 16 which define on the core between adjacent slots dovetail shape projections 18 on which are mounted salient polepieces 14 having in their bases dovetail slots 20 by which they are secured to the core dovetail projections 18. This arrangement is to simplify the core milling operation, and the polepieces may comprise laminations in which the slots 20 are punched. As shown, applied to a synchronous generator rotor, the polepieces carry windings 28 between pole tips 24 and shoulders 22 terminated by parallel-sided portions 19 one on each side of the slot 20, and the polepieces are secured to the core by a press fit between juxtaposed portions 19 and between the portions 19 and the core slot walls, aided in the embodiment shown by tapered keys 26 in keyways 23. The core may be hollow or solid, and non-magnetic, the flux path between adjacent polepieces being via shoulders 22.
