Abstract

799,402. Machinery guards. ATKINSON'S AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES, Ltd. Oct. 22, 1956 [Nov. 2, 1955], No. 31332/55. Class 80 (4). A shaft such as a telescopic tractor power take-off shaft 20-21 having a universal joint 22 at each end is provided with a freely floating tubular guard 25 capable both of compression or expansion and of bending. The tube 25 is preferably of rubber, which may be reinforced, and may be longitudinally undulating, as shown or accordion creased. The tube 25 has at each end a socket 26, which may be flared, fitting with clearance over the universal joint 22. The outer part 20 of the telescopic shaft may have a rib 28 to retain the tube 25.
