Abstract
A detergent composition with a liquid to pastelike consistency contains (a) 1.8-4 per cent, preferably not more than 3 per cent, of polyvinyl alcohol; (b) finely divided siliceous material, such as finely ground diatomite or quartz, preferably in a proportion not exceeding 15 per cent; and (c) an emulsifier, such as glycerol mono- or di-stearate or a mixture of saturated fatty alcohols with fatty alcohol sulphates and non-ionic emulsifiers, the composition having a pH of 2-5 or 8-11. The pH may be suitably adjusted either with such weak acids as lactic, citric or acetic acid, or with weak bases such as borax or waterglass.
