Abstract
794.404. Printing-machines. SMEJDA. R. K. Sept. 1. 1956, No. 26778/56. Class 100(2) Inking apparatus:- In a device for feeding a number of print pastes to a horizontal intaglio printing cylinder 14. a series of independently operating feeding units 1 are arranged horizontally along the cylinder, each unit having a supply chamber 3 from the bottom of which a feeding chamber 4 of small height compared to the cylinder diameter extends laterally and has an end confronting the cylinder and conforming to the contour thereof, with a transverse wiper blade 15 traversed by the intaglio surface at its entrance side and a transverse doctor blade 13 to remove excess paste therefrom at its exit side. The frame 2 may be adjustable to vary the contact pressure of the device against the cylinder 14. The units 1, e.g. of width # to 3 ins., may be prefabricated single-sided sections, the side wall of each section acting as the second wall of the previous section; as shown each pair of chambers 3, 4 is connected by a channel 5, Fig. 8, regulated or closed entirely by a gate 6, Figs. 2 and 3, manually adjusted by a nut 8 supported by a bar 9 common to all units, the adjustment being indicated by the amount of the threaded rod 7 showing above the bar 9; supports 10, Figs. 1 and 2, may be turned down to lower the bar 9 to close all valves 6. Each feeding chamber 4 has a trap wall 12 and filter 11, Fig. 8, and its mouth 17 is bounded. by (a) the wiper 15 common to all units and having a contact edge of bristles, sponge, felt or other resilient or permeable material; (b) side walls 23, Fig. 8, having solid tips 24 or bristle, spongy or other permeable tips 25 mounted directly or with intervening springs (Fig. 6, not shown) thereon; and (c) the exchangeable stationary or movable doctor blade 13 extending over the whole length of the apparatus and made of resilient abrasion-resistive material, or of metal or synthetic resin mounted on a rubber support or on springs; the contact line 18 of the doctor blade is located where deflection of the cylinder surface is at a minimum, while that of the wiper 15 is nearer the zone of maximum deflectian. The mouth 17 may be filled with corrugated resilient vibrators 19, Figs. 2 and 3, held by a spring 19a against the cylinder surface, the intagliations of which agitate them to press the print paste into the engraving; alternatively this function may be performed by a block 20, Fig. 8, presenting a face converging towards the cylinder, and forming a channel 20a for leading excess paste back into the main stream.
