Class 97(2) A plate 1, preferably transparent and rectangular, is suspended from a line 6 and marked with a datum 7 aligned, when the whole is suspended, with the portion 6a of the line which carries a weight 8. The line is held by friction in a hole or slot 5. The whole device may be used as a plumb-bob or the portion 6a used separately to check a vertical surface against which the plate 1 is butted.
