Abstract
783,164. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 19, 1953], No. 25046/56. Divided out of 783,162. Class 39(1). In the manufacture of a tube containing a photo - conductive target 7 and a cathode 2 liable to be damagec by such material, the cathode is providec with a protective medium and is exposed by heating only after the target has been formed. The cathode material before heating may be the usual mixture of barium and strontium carbonates and the heating then also serves to form and activate the oxide layer. The protective medium may then be the usual binder, e.g., collodion and extra coatings of collodion may be provided over the cathode surface. The photoconductive material may be selenium or selenium and tellurium and during its evaporation the target is maintained at -10‹C. to 95‹C. while the rest of the envelope is at 150‹C. to 300‹C. Additionally a movable flap 9 may be interposed between the cathode and the target during the deposition process.
