Abstract
782,009. Cooling radiators for aircraft. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Dec. 29, 1955 [Dec. 29. 1954], No. 37236/55. Class 64(3) [Also in Group XXXIII] In adapting the spinner of an aircraft propeller for cooling the fluid actuating the variable pitch mechanism, an airstream flows through an open nose piece 56 into a diverging passage 100; this widens into a bell having its centre blocked by a baffle 128 which directs the air into tubes 122 mounted between annular tube plates 124, 126 in a heat exchanger 106 through which the operating fluid circulates from an inlet 118 to an outlet 120. The exchanger s bolted to an annular pedestal 110 itself bolted to the front of the propeller hub. In another form, fins, projecting into the air stream as it passes out of ports 112 in the pedestal are mounted on a circular tubular carrier for the fluid secured to the rear of the pedestal.
