Abstract

789,936. Thermal switches. BOSCH GES., R. May 24, 1956 [June 2, 1955], No. 16051/56. Class 38 (5). A switch for flashing vehicle direction indicators comprises a magnet frame 10 energized by a winding 11 and supporting by means of a leaf spring 13 an armature 12. A hot wire 14 insulatedly connected at the upper end to the armature and at the lower end to the frame 10, when cold, biases the armature 12 into the position shown in which a contact 16 on the lower end of the armature engages a spring blade mounted contact 15. An auxiliary armature 36a mounted on a spring blade 36 carries a contact 39 cooperating with a fixed contact 40, the wire 14 being connected to the contact 40 through a resistance 46. When changeover switch 42 is closed to energize flashing indicators 43 or 44 a circuit is completed from the battery 45, contacts 15, 16, armature 12, spring 13, frame 10 and winding 11 (which is connected to the frame) to earth through the indicators. The attraction of the armature 12 reinforces the action of the hot wire but owing to the attraction of the armature 36a the initially-open contacts 39, 40 are closed to complete a circuit from the frame 10 through the hot wire and resistance 46 to earth whereby the hot wire expands and permits the leaf spring 13 to retract the armature 12 and open contacts 15, 16. The armature 36a thus releases and the hot wire cools to release contacts 15, 16 and repeat the cycle. A pilot light 47 is energized from the switch 42 when the contacts 39, 40 are closed.
