789,406. Casting-processes; casting composite-articles. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AKT.-GES. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 23, 1954], No. 30341/55. Class 83 (1). Tubes or shaped elements are homogeneously leaded by applying the. liquid-lead as a progressively solidifying coating to the verticallyarranged articles using an axially-movable mandrel or bath vessel, or both, and applying a supplementary rotary or vibrating movement, or both, to the mandrel or the bath, or both. A tube to be internally coated, Fig. 1, is held in a clamp 8, and is lead introduced in liquid or solid form. A mandrel 2 is supported from a vertically-movable crosshead 4 and is rotatable by drive-means 7. A cam-ring 1 on the mandrel scrapes off oxide skins which may be formed on the tube. Heating and cooling-devices 5, 6 move with the crosshead. For externally coating a tube, Fig. 2, a bath 11 and heating and cooling-devices 14, 16, are moved vertically upwardly by a crosshead 13, the bath being simultaneously rotated by drive means 19, 20. The tube is preheated by elements 22. In a modification for simultaneously internally and externally coating a tube using a mandrel and a bath, these are vibrated. The article to be coated may also be vibrated or rotated, or both.
