Abstract
786,296. Cold separation of air. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd. May 2, 1956 [May 24, 1955], No. 14936/55. Class 8(2). Separation of substantially pure nitrogen in the gaseous phase from cold compressed air is effected in a secondary zone 7 of a rectification column having a primary zone 1 to which is fed cold compressed air through a duct 2, and reflux air through a duct 6 after condensation of air at a higher pressure in a coil 4 and expansion at a valve 5, reflux for the head of rectification zone 7 being provided by withdrawing part of the pure nitrogen leaving said zone through ducts 8, 9 compressing at 11, cooling in exchangers 12, 10, condensing in a coil 13 in heat exchanger with reflux air and expansion at a valve 14. Pure product nitrogen gas, crude nitrogen gas and crude oxygen gas leave by ducts 15, 16, 17 respectively.
