Abstract

785,136. Heart catheters. RUESCH, W. June 8, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 16535/55. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A ferrule is attached to the thermoplastic tube of a heart catheter by being threaded on to the end of the tube and secured by an outer thermoplastic sleeve which is welded to the tube. The inner bore of the ferrule 14 has a reduced diameter 5 at one end, so as to provide an abutment 6 for the catheter tube 1, and the walls have annular ribs 7 and drillings 8 so that a firm attachment is obtained when a sleeve 9 is passed over it and secured to the tube by welding. This operation is carried out in a two-part holder in which the material is heated by highfrequency electric current. Finally the sleeve is cooled and coated with polyvinyl chloride lacquer. The outer end of the ferrule is threaded for connection to an attachment piece 15.
