Abstract
772,303. Centrifugal separators. SMIDTH & CO. AKTIESELSKAB, F. L. Sept. 20, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954], No. 27195/54. Class 23 Apparatus for separating slurry into coarse and fine fractions comprises separating chambers having tangential inlets connected to a feed chamber, and a single movable member within the feed chamber and which imparts a high velocity to the slurry passing through the inlets. The slurry is supplied to the feed chamber 3 by an inlet 12 and the member comprises a vaned rotor 13 having a shaft 14 driven by a pulley 15. Hydro-cyclones 1 arranged to form wring are connected to the chamber by the tangential inlets 2. Excess slurry fed to the hydro-cyclones is recycled to the feed chamber by tangential passages 17. The coarse fraction from the hydrocyclones is collected in an annular vessel 6 having an outlet 7. 'The fine fraction from the hydro-cyclones passes through passages 9 to an annular vessel 10 having an outlet 11. Dimensions are given in the Specification.
