Abstract

777,402. Geophysical surveying. CANADIAN AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICS, Ltd. June 20, 1955 [July 30, 1954], No. 17807/55. Class 37. In geophysical surveying apparatus of the type in which an alternating field produced by a coil 2 induces in ore deposits eddy currents the effect of which is picked up by a coil 4, the direct effect of coil 2 on coil 4 is neutralized by means of a circuit 3, 5. As shown, coil 4 is tuned and the signal picked up is amplified and resolved in known manner into its in-phase and quadrature components which are separately recorded. Alternatively the pick-up may be measured by a null method with the aid of calibrated attenuators for the respective components. When coils 2, 3 and 4 are carried in a bird towed by an aircraft, errors due to changes in the relative position of the coils in flight are minimized by securing the coils to an elongated support 13 which is attached to the bird at two points 14, 15 between the coils. By this means the tendency of the support 13 to bend in response to accelerators applied by the towing cable is counteracted by the inertia of the coils &c. at its ends.
