776,926. Specific-gravity estimating apparatus. ROTAMETER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and STEPHENSON, E. F. March 16, 1955 [March 31, 1954], No. 9495/54. Class 97(3) 'The apparatus comprises an elongated hollow member pivotally supported at one end for rocking about a horizontal axis and defining a flow channel extending continuously from an inlet to an outlet positioned respectively at said one end, flexible connections to the inlet and outlet whereby a fluid is caused to circulate continuously through the channel and means for comparing the weight of the member when the channel is filled with the fluid with the weight of the member when the channel is filled with a reference fluid of known density. In the form shown the flow channel comprises pipes 1 connected by an elbow 3 fed through flexible connections 6. The pipes are mounted on a member 2 pivoted at 4 and are connected by a link 10 to a weighing beam 9. Movement of the beam is limited by stops 15 and a pneumatic device 14 provides a restoring force and controls a supply of air under pressure to a recording instrument. The beam is set initially when the tubes 1 are full of water, by adjusting a weight 12. Additional weights may be added at 16 if required.
