Abstract
776,432. Animal traps. SIMPSON, D. Sept. 3, 1953 [Sept. 19, 1952 ; May 6, 1953], Nos. 23539/52 and 12547/53. Class 5(1). A rabbit trap comprises a base 5 mounting at one of its ends a pivoted striker 23 and at the other end a loop 19 or means which can constitute a closed loop, Fig. 4, the arrangement being that the striker is moved to ensnare the rabbit between itself and the loop when the animal releases the striker by treading on a tripmechanism 12, 16, 17. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the base 5 carries a cross-bar 18 at one end supporting a loop 19 and a cross-bar 8 at the other end having up-turned flanges 9, 10 which carry a spindle 21 forming the pivot axis of the striker frame 23. The frame is loaded by a spring 24 and has spaced cross-bars 29, 30 which embrace the wire loop 19, in the set position. A further cross-bar 27 is adapted to be held beneath a pivoted tongue 12 and a slotted portion 17 on a tread-plate 16. On release of the frame by an animal's weight on the plate 16, the frame rises to crush the animal against the loop 19. In the form shown in Fig. 4 the loop is replaced by a pair of arms 49 which are erected about pivots on the base, to form a loop (dotted position), by the movement of the frame 37, which then co-operates with the loop to trap the animal. The frame has a cross-bar 52 which is located beneath a latch 47 held by the tread-plate 43 in the "set" position.
