A toggle fastening of the kind comprising a primary part 1 and a secondary part 2 to draw together and secure two relatively movable parts by means of a toggle lever 7 linked to the primary part 1 by member 11 and engaging the secondary part 2 by the notched side cheeks 18 and anchorage studs 19, has an auxiliary lever 22 serving as an extension of the unnotched end of the toggle lever 7 and is stowable in the secondary part 2 when the fastening is closed to be collinear with and mainly beyond the unnotched end of the toggle lever. The primary part 1 comprises a metal bracket connected to a movable part by bolt-holes 4 and having the link 11 pivoted in a bifurcation 3. The secondary part 2 is formed from side-plates 5 spaced apart by tubular rivets 6. The link 11 comprises a female part 13 into which a male part 14 is axially screwed, the two parts being held against accidental rotation by a cotter-pin 17 inserted in a slot 16 in the part 13. End 14 of the link is pivoted between the side cheeks 18 of the toggle lever 7 which extends downwardly from the pivot to engage the anchor-plates 19, and upwardly to form an operating arm with lever 22 pivoted at its end. Arm 23 of lever 22 engages the web 9 of toggle lever 7 when both levers are collinear but permits anti-clockwise rotation of lever 22 during which the end of arm 23 engages an eccentrically positioned cylindrical surface 38 which throws the toggle lever outwards against the load which retains it in an over dead-centre position. Arm 24 of the auxiliary lever 22 is shaped so that on closing the fastening the bevelled end 34 lifts a latchplate 27 which drops over the end to engage the recess 31 and is held in position by a spring 36, one end of which bears against lever 22. By pressing the latch-plate 27 inwardly the lever 22 is released and partially ejected by the spring 36 to enable it to be grasped and pulled downwards in the direction of the arrow D to release the toggle lever 7. A transverse pin 35 checks the inward movement of the lever 22 when the fastening is closed and checks outward movement of spring 36 when the fastening is open. The latch-plate 27 which is pivoted at 29 may carry a downwardly-depending kicker arm which throws the lever 22 outwards when the latch-plate is moved inwards.
