Abstract
768,132. Typewriters &c. SMITH, J. Jan. 14, 1955 [Jan. 28, 1954], No. 2591/54. Class 100(4) Inking. In a typewriter producing a master copy for copying by a hectographic or other copying process, minor script images of type characters are transferred by impression to the rear of a paper 42 from an ink-retaining platen 1 fed by an ink-feeder 32, the ink being spread by a transverse ink distributer 28 in contact with the ink-retaining surface. The feeder 32 is of a reservoir or ball-point pen type having a ball or needle-valve to control flow and rests by gravity on the platform, and with a main reservoir 33, is carried at the end of a bar 34 pivotally mounted on a pillar 36 attached to the typewriter. The distributer 28 is carried in a holder 27 mounted on a bar 26 so that it can be pivoted by a hand lever 30 away from the platen and latched in disengaged position. The feeder 32 is positioned centrally of the machine and when the end of a line is reached a cam 37 engages below the reservoir 33 and lifts the feeder clear of the platen for line spacing. Platen construction. The platen 1 has an ink-retaining surface such as rubber, rubber substitute, textile fabric, or other micro-porous material, a standard platen may be used if fitted with an ink-retaining sleeve.
