Abstract
768,127. Fastenings operated from a distance; door-operating appliances. DENNISON, KETT & CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Oct. 22, 1953; June 14, 1954], Nos. 29243/53 and 17457/54. Classes 44 and 65 (1). [Also in Group X] A power - driven flexible rolling shutter arrangement comprises a pair of tracks J for guiding the edges of the shutter, locking means for the shutter comprising at least one locking member adapted to be normally retained in a locking position, electrically operated means for releasing the locking member or members, a winding shaft for the shutter, an electric driving motor M for the shaft, a motor control circuit including means for reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft and limit switches T1, T2 automatically operated by the shutter motor for interrupting the shutter drive when the shutter has travelled a required distance in forward or reverse and means interlocking the releasing means and the motor control circuit for ensuring operation of the releasing means before the motor is operative to drive the shutter from the closed to the open position. In one construction, Fig. 2, the locking means consists of two bolts D and the releasing means are solenoids B which retract the bolts. The bolts are urged to their locking position by springs and are each mounted inside the tracks J for the shutter a short distance from one end. The bolts are made of a conducting material and are connected in series with a battery and a warning device W. They are adapted to engage blocks e which are joined by a bridging strip E and when the bolts engage the blocks the circuit for an alarm device W is completed. The blocks are mounted on the shutter a small distance below the bolts so that they make contact with the bolts if the shutter is raised a short distance. In another construction, Fig. 4, the locking means is a spring-loaded bar 35 which engages a detent 43 mounted on the driving shaft 33 for the shutter and the releasing means is a solenoid 37. The detent depresses a plunger 42 carried by the bar 35 if an attempt is made to raise the shutter manually and closes a circuit between two contacts 39, 41 mounted on the bar to complete the circuit for an alarm device W. In both constructions the motor M is operated to open the shutter by a push-button switch K1 and to close the shutter by a pushbutton switch K2. The motor control circuit consists of a pair of contactors S1, S2. When the switch K1 is pressed it closes the circuit for operating coil G1 of contactor S1 so that the contactor operates and locks itself operated through its contact U2. The operation of the contactor completes the field circuit for the motor and also completes the circuit for the solenoids B in the case of the first construction or for the solenoid 37 in the case of the second construction. In the first construction, when the solenoids B have operated to unlock the shutter, one of them depresses a push-button P which completes the circuit for a relay R which connects the motor armature in circuit, this push-button P and relay R comprising the interlocking means. The motor operates and raises the shutter and is stopped when the shutter is fully raised, by the limit switch T2 which breaks the circuit to the contactor coil G1. In the case of the second construction when the solenoid 37 operates it raises the plunger 42 and contacts 39 and 41 out of the path of the detent 43 and also operates the push-button P as before. The push-button K2 completes the circuit for the operating coil G2 of the contactor S2 which operates the motor M in the reverse direction to close the shutter. The contactor S2 locks itself operated and completes the motor's field and armature circuits and also the circuits for the solenoid B in the first construction or the solenoid 37 on the second construction. The shutter is, therefore, lowered and is stopped when it is closed by the limit switch T which breaks the circuit of the operating coil G2 of the contactor. When the shutter is installed on a vehicle and it is desired to immobilize the shutter and all the electrical equipment of the vehicle, the operating coils G1 and G2 and the other electrical equipment of the vehicle such as the starter motor are connected to one pole of the battery through a fuse Y1. A push-button switch N is connected from the dead-side of the fuse to the other pole of the battery and when it is pressed it connects the fuse across the battery which causes it to blow. All the electrical equipment is then immobilized with the exception of the circuit for the alarm device W which is connected directly to the battery without going through the fuse. ______
