Abstract
The invention comprises (1) 2-dininopenthiazoline, 2-aminopenthiazoline-4-carboxylic acid and their salts (e.g. with hydrogen halides) and functional derivatives (e.g. 2-monoacyl- and 2-diacylaminopenthiazolines); and (2) the preparation thereof, which comprises treating at ordinary or elevated temperatures an aqueous solution of (a) g -thiocyanatopropylamine (which may be prepared in situ from g -bromo-propylamine hydrobrimide and potassium thiocyanate), or a salt thereof, with a weak alkali (e.g. alkali carbonates or cyanides); (b) homocystamine, or a salt thereof, with an alkali metal cyanide; and (c) homocystine, or a derivative thereof, with an alkali metal cyanide; if desired, the products being further treated with acylating agents in an aqueous alkaline or organic solvent, preferably in presence of acid acceptors (e.g. pyridine), to give the corresponding 2-diacylamino derivatives, from which the monoacyl compounds are obtained by treatment with a solution of hydrogen chloride in benzol. The examples describe the preparation of 2-aminopenthiazoline and the hydrobromide thereof, 2-aminopenthiazoline-4-carboxylic acid and the copper salt thereof, 2-dibenzoylaminopenthiazoline and 2-bis-benzenesulphonylaminopenthiazoline.
