Abstract

Iron or another metal e.g. nickel, is incorporated into a compound casting of magnesium or magnesium alloy by first forming on the metal a Mex Al7 layer by immersion of the metal in an Al or Al alloy bath, and thereafter pouring on Mg or Mg alloy. The invention is particularly applicable to heat-exchangers e.g. brakedrums and cylinder heads.
