Abstract

A ceramic composition is prepared by firing a batch containing titania, either quartz or silica gel and sufficient baria, or a compound yielding baria on firing, to neutralise all the titania to barium metatitanate and all the silica to barium metasilicate. Barium metasilicate may be used initially. Other ingredients which may be present are the metatitanates of strontium, calcium or magnesium, magnesium orthotitanate, barium zirconate and barium stannate.
