A sliding-clasp fastener of the kind in which the interengaging members, in the closed position of the fastener, are completely concealed by the tape or material to which the members are attached, comprises two chains of interengaging members, the members of each chain being secured to tape f of textile or other flexible material, each member comprising a body portion a and a trunk portion d which together define a jaw part therebetween, the jaw being open towards the opposite member in the opposite chain, the member being attached to the tape by inserting an edge of the tape f in the jaw and closing the trunk d towards the body a to grip the tape therebetween, the tape then being folded back over the end of the trunk adjacent the open end of the jaw and away from the open end of the jaw so as to lie on the top of the trunk portion. Each member is further provided with a hollow projecting tooth b which, in transverse section therethrough, is a figure of six or more sides, to provide a tooth on one side of the body and a recess on the other side, which tooth is located adjacent that edge of the body which is adjacent the open end of the jaw. Stopper means c are located in such a position adjacent the tooth b and means on the slider h that when two teeth of opposite members in opposite chains are engaged, the edge of the body portion adjacent the open jaw of one member, is brought hard up against the stopper means on the other body. The jaw being of such shape that when there is any lateral pull on the tapes there are set up opposing forces on the contacting parts of the tapes and on the material to which they are attached, such that the contacting parts are forced more firmly into engagement. As shown, a spur e is formed on the upper portion of the body a to assist the grip on the tape f. The slider h is provided with a central pillar k shaped to co-operate with the teeth of the interengaging members and the floor of the slider is provided with a portion v sloping towards the centre of the slider beneath a fin r and extending over approximately half the length of the slider from a. nose y towards the entry end thereof. The slider is also provided with a spring-loaded locking pawl o carried on a pivot k which may alternatively be located in a position l on the slider to permit operation thereof internally of the material to which the fastener is attached.
