Abstract

733,076. Picnic &c. stands. POTTER, F. N. May 19, 1953 [May 19, 1952], No. 12611/52. Class 133. [Also in Groups VI, XIII and XIV] A portable container and stand, e.g. for carrying and serving eatables at picnics comprises a base lb with a central upstanding pillar 2 having a number of spaced shelves 3 and a removable cover or shield 6 to enclose the shelves and rest upon the base, latching means 9, 10 to hold the cover in position and a carrying handle 15. The shelves are rotatably mounted on shoulders of the pillar 2 and the base and shelves have upstanding flanges 1a, 3a. Rotatable on the base 1 is a holder for slabs of cake, cheese &c. or slices of toast, comprising radial partitions 5. The cover 6 has a flange 6a mating with a step 1b on the base and its top 7 has a centre hole 8 slotted to take over a radial pin 9 projecting from the top of the pillar. The latching member 10 has a bayonet joint 11 engaging the pin 9 and a rubber bush engaging the top of the pillar, the top 7 of the cover being flexible to hold the parts tightly together. The handle has a semi-annular part 14 fixed to the top 7 and a hinged part 15 which may lie flat on the top. The cover and pillar may be made in telescopic sections for stowing away after use. The cover may be vacuum jacketted and the container may receive ice. The device may be used as a pressure cooker, a relief valve being provided. The cover may be transparent. According to the Provisional Specification the knob 10 may form part of a cigarette lighter.
