Abstract

732,155. Colostomy receivers. BARNISH, L. S. Dec. 18, 1953 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4472/53. Class 81 (2). A one-piece moulded rubber colostomy receiver 1 has the inlet aperture 3 surrounded by a wall 4 with an inwardly projecting flange 5. When in use, this flange grips the intestine and, in order to avoid discomfort, the edge 7 of the flange is of increased thickness. The part of the outer wall opposite the orifice 3 is provided with a number of projections 8 to prevent it closing the bowel. An outwardly projecting flange 6 may also be provided to retain a metal support plate by means of which the receptacle can be attached to a belt. The discharge end of the receptacle is normally folded over and secured by a spring clip.
