739,906. Heating fluids electrically. SOC. LE CARBONE-LORRAINE. May 18, 1953 [June 3, 1952], No. 13960/52. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XIII] A heat-exchanger comprises a hollow non- rotary block 10 of heat conducting material, e.g. carbon, graphite, plastic or stainless steel provided with two sets 11, 14 of passages formed by cutting into the material of the block a medium to be heated being passed through the passages 11 and the passages 14 receiving electric heating elements or induction heating means, an impeller 24 being disposed within the block 10 or within a closely adjacent tubular extension thereof, said impeller serving to propel the medium to be heated or cooled through the passages 11 which extend transversely to the axis of the impeller. The heatexchanger may be immersed in a body of liquid to be heated or it may be disposed in a casing, Fig. 3 (not shown), externally of said body of liquid. Numerous forms of impeller are mentioned and it is stated that the impellant action may be produced by rotary, gyratory, reciprocating or any other movement thereof. A vibrator, e.g. a cam or eccentric, may be incorporated to produce sonic or ultrasonic vibrations to break up the liquid film on the heat-exchange surfaces. The Provisional Specification describes a number of alternative constructions. Specification 736,305, [Group XIII], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
