Abstract

739,409. Ball couplings. BATE, B. DIXON-. Feb. 5, 1954, No. 3475/54. Class 103 (5). A spring-pressed plunger 6 has a slot 7 in which works a pin 8 eccentrically mounted on a web 11 rotatable by a shaft 9 and handle 10. Rotation of the pin 8 lifts the plunger to release the ball, and the plunger is prevented from rotating by the web 11 contacting the cap 13 and a flat face 12 on the plunger. The handle 10 is held in the locked position by a leafspring 17 which must be depressed by the nib 16 when the handle is turned. The pin 8 is positioned so that in the fully open position it cannot go over centre so that the plunger will not remain in the unlocked position but will be returned by the spring 14. The hole 15 is used as an oil reservoir to lubricate the slot 7 by a wick 19.
