Abstract

Adhesive compositions comprise after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, a volatile organic solvent, and optionally a resin and a plasticizer for the resin. The resin may be ester gum, damar, rosin or a condensation product of formaldehyde and a phenol such as phenol, a cresol, p-octyl phenol, p-tert.-butyl phenol, p-phenyl phenol or a xylenol. Specified plasticizers are chlorinated paraffin wax, dibutyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate and trichloroethyl phosphate. Solvents mentioned are methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, ethyl acetate, and a blend of ethyl acetate and benzene. The compositions are used in the foot-wear industry and for uniting sheet materials.
