[Also in Groups X and XIV] A mounting for a pair of sliding doors 1, 2, Fig. 3, comprises a pair of twin parallel track guides 4, 5, which are in end-to-end relationship to one another and pivoted at their outer ends by hinges 8, 9, and a plate 11 to control movement of the adjacent ends of the guides 4, 5, so that the front track 6 of one guide 4 can be moved into alignment with the rear track 15 of the other guide 5 to allow door 1 to be slid behind door 2 by engaging track 15. As shown applied to a book-case 3, the glass doors 1, 2, are aligned in the closed position. On pushing door 1 inwardly, plates 11 which are provided at the top and bottom of the book-case, turn about their pivots 12 and by means of teeth 14 on the track guides engaging slots 13 in the plates 11 cause track guide 5 and door 2 to move to the position shown. By pressing door 2 inwardly, the door may be slid from track 7 to track 16 behind door 1. An abutment 17 formed by the edge of the book-case floor limits the movement of the doors. A spring-loaded member 18 located in a recess in the book-case base has a rounded portion 21 to engage both guides in the closed position. On pushing one or other door inwardly; the member 18 is moved outwardly against spring action and an abutment thereon prevents accidentally moving the outer door, such as door 2, off its track. In a modification, Fig. 5, applied to automobile doors, the doors 22, 23 are carried on the inside tracks 24, 25 of guides 26, 27. Plates 28 control movement of the guides and a lock is provided at the adjacent ends of the doors to hold the doors in closed alignment. In a modification applied to wooden doors, the latter are mounted on runners which run on rails.
