Abstract
736,995. Ion trapping in cathode-ray tubes. LOEWE OPTA AKT.-GES. Feb. 6, 1952 [Feb. 7, 1951], No. 3155/52. Class 39 (1). An ion trap gun comprises an insulating, preferably ceramic, cylindrical electrode carrier 1, Fig. 1, on the inner wall of which the electrodes are supported, the common axis of the cathode 2, Wehnelt electrode 4 and first anode 5 being inclined relatively to the axis of the second anode 8. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the outer wall of the carrier is an accurate cylinder, and the cathode, Wehnelt electrode and first anode are carried in an inclined hole in the carrier; this construction facilitates insertion of the assembly as a tight fit in the tube neck, or it may be spaced from the tube neck by flexible spacers. The electrodes may be layers formed by spraying, vaporization, electrolytic deposition or sputtering or may be self-supporting sheet metal plates or cylinders. Groove 7 increases the insulation path length between anodes 5, 8. The wall of carrier 1 is provided with apertures (not shown) for electrode lead wires.
