Abstract

736,178. Cable and wire terminals. AIRCRAFT-MARINE PRODUCTS, Inc. June 29,1953, No. 17945/53. Class 38 (1). In the formation of a terminal connector comprising a ferrule 26, Fig. 2, and a tongue 28, a sheet of metal 20, Fig. 1, from which the connector is blanked and bent up is first laminated with a sheet 22 of tough insulating plastic so that the finished ferrule and tongue are provided on one side with insulation. Fig. 3 shows a modification wherein the insulating sheet 22a extends only over the ferrule-forming portion of the metal sheet 20a and in the modification thereof in Fig. 5, the plastic sheet 22b extends outwardly beyond the ferruleforming portion to form a sleeve round the insulation of a wire crimped in the ferrule. In Fig. 7 the plastic 22c extends over the edges of the metal 20c so that the butt joint formed in the ferrule is sealed. Fig. 8 shows a modification of this construction wherein points 24d at the edges of the ferrule-forming portion are left bare of insulation so that they may be driven into a wire. According to a further construction, a strip of connector blanks is stamped out with the blanks arranged side-by-side, and is subsequently laminated with a sheet of plastic which is then stamped to leave an extension beyond the ferrule-forming portion. The plastic is also drawn over the edges of the metal as shown in Fig. 15 and forms a lip 39 round a hole for a binding-post or screw in the tongue portion, which lip, through its resilience, acts against a binding-post nut or screw and prevents accidental loosening. In Fig. 16 a metal strip 20g has insulation 22g on both sides, the connectors in this case being bent up as shown in Fig. 17 so that the cut edges can contact a binding-post nut or screw-head. Specification 613,013 is referred to.
