735,054. Valves. JURS, A. E., YOUNG, R. M., JURS, E. E., JURS, P. C., and JURS, jun., A. E., [trading as SHAND & JURS CO.]. Aug. 26, 1952, No. 21464/52. Class 135. A gaseous fluid flow control device, e.g. a pressure or vacuum relief valve, comprises an annular seat 21 with a horizontal plane working surface 31, a rigid valve pallet 26 vertically movable above the seat and yieldably urged toward the seat, e.g. by weight or spring, a flexible diaphragm member 29 covering the lower pallet face and sealed at 33, 34, to the pallet at its periphery which is outwardly spaced from the seat so that the lower side of an annular peripheral portion of the diaphragm is exposed to outlet pressure and a cushion of resilient material 28 between the pallet and diaphragm, the space 38 between the diaphragm and pallet communicating with the inflow side 17 of the valve body whereby, in the region of the pressure at which the device opens, the pallet is free floating and the diaphragm is bulged downwardly on to the seat. A further increase of inlet pressure lifts the pallet and diaphragm to open the valve. The inlet pressure enters the space 38 via a central diaphragm aperture and the porous cushion. A ring passed over a valve stem guide carries diametral rods which are sprung under casing hooks to secure an inspection cover in place. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 674,643.
