Abstract
728,804. Shaft couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 12, 1953 [Oct. 13, 1952], No. 28046/53. Class 80 (2). A driving mechanism comprises a driving shaft 16 connected at one end 18 to a.hollow driving shaft 9 and having at the other end a coupling member 21 connected to a source of power, friction clamping means 31 being arranged between the shafts 9, 16. The connection between the member 21 and shaft 16 permits of limited relative angular movement of the parts and may consist of a splined connection. The damping means may consist of a conical member 31 splined to the shaft 16 and urged by a spring 34 against a conical surface on the shaft 9. In a modification the damping means comprises a pair of conical members 31. The invention prevents excessive stresses arising due to vibration particularly when used between a dynamo-electric machine 1 and a prime mover such as a piston-driven aircraft engine. Specification 680,274 is referred to.
