728,400. Turbine casings. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPEMENT ASSOCIATION. April 24, 1953 [May 8, 1952], No. 11696/52. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXII] Each half of a turbine casing is furnished with continuous narrow ledges at its edges and a plurality of ribs project beyond the ledges and are adapted to be clamped to the corresponding ribs of the other cylinder half by a plurality of clamps. In Fig. 1, the cylinder halves a, bare formed with projecting ribs e, f respectively, and with continuous ledges c, d respectively. Adjacent pairs of ribs e, f are connected together by clamps k, m which bear on the ledges c, d and on ledges g, formed on the ribs. The clamps are held together by bolts and nuts n, o, each pair of clamps k, m engaging two adjacent pairs of ribs e, f. Some of the ribs f are formed with extensions i for mounting on supports j. In Fig. 3, the clamps k, m engage the narrow ledges c, d and are held by bolts q, r which are tightened against circular plane faces s, t formed, in the ribs e, f respectively. In this embodiment each pair of clamps k, m engages a pair of ribs e, f, the through bolts being disposed on either side of the ribs. The surfaces of the ledges may be inclined so that the clamps are urged inwardly in relation to the cylinder.
