Abstract

727,111. Cable couplings. ROTTERDAM, GEMEENTE. June 11, 1953 [June 11, 1952], No. 16159/53. Class 38 (1). A cable branch terminal consists of a contact member 1 and a contact strip 9 together being adapted to embrace an insulated cable core, the ends of the strip being secured to the member 1 by clamping members 4, 5 with at least one end of the strip projecting beyond the contact member for connection to a bared branch cable core, e.g. by soldering. Pointed screws 10 carried by member 1 penetrate the insulation of the cable core when screwed down until their heads engage member 1 and make electrical connection with the core as well as tighten the terminal about it. The co-operating faces of the members 4, 5 and member 1 are formed with grooves 8 and ridges 7 which deform the strip 9 and at the same time tighten it about the cable core. Said ridges and grooves may be triangular in cross-section. Fig. 6 shows branch cable cores 23 connected to a four-core cable by terminals as above, insulating plates 21, 22 being placed between the terminals. The branch is finally surrounded by a box filled with plastic insulating material.
