Abstract

724,158. Foundry ladles. JENKINS, J. Aug. 20, 1953 [Aug. 20, 1952], No. 20937/52. Class 82 (1). In a ladle for teeming molten metal, a fixed nozzle in the ladle bottom and stopper rotatable in the nozzle have co-operating ports, and means are provided for rotating the stopper to bring the ports into and out of registration to control teeming. As shown, a nozzle 10 in the bottom 10A of a ladle has a bore 11, the upper conical part of which is provided with two channels 12 and 13. The stopper 14 has a threaded bore 15 to receive an operating rod and two slots 17 so that the stopper may be rotated from the closed position shown until the slots 17 allow metal to flow through the channels 12 and 13. The operating rod may have its upper end fixed in a horizontal arm extending outwardly over the ladle rim and engaged by a lever pivoted on the ladle wall to rotate the rod.
