Abstract

712,869. Ventilating crankcases. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AKT.-GES. May 6, 1952 [May 8, 1951], No. 11449/52. Class 7(2) In an engine having a receiver 3 for cooling, scavenging or charging air; such as that formed by the space between the cylinder rows 1, 2 of a V-engine, the crankcase 17 is provided with an air venting pipe 18 and is in communication with the receiver by way of an opening 16 to which may be fitted a device 21 acting simultaneously as a throttle and oil separator and comprising casing fitted internally with metal plates forming a labyrinth-like passage. The walls 19 of the crankcase may extend up to the cylinder heads 10 and form with the crankcase walls 14 angular spaces from which accumulated oil is drawn by air from the receiver along pipes 20 to the opening 16. A filter may be connected to the inlet side of the opening 16. The two-stroke engine described has a space which encloses the inlet passages and is in communication with the receiver 3, the pipes from the exhaust passages leading upwardly through the cover 8 of the receiver.
