Abstract
<PICT:0712816/III/1> A diaphragm for dispersing fluids in liquids comprises a substantially rigid sheet V bearing at least 25 apertures Q, each aperture being provided with an overlying flexible flap S which opens and closes in response to variation in pressure across the diaphragm. Preferably the diaphragm has at least one aperture per square centimeter of its surface; the diameter of the apertures may be 1/16 -\ba1/4 inch. The diaphragm may be made from steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, bronze, aluminium or aluminium alloys, or from "Bakelite" (Registered Trade Mark) or other plastics. The flexible flap may be of metal of thickness 0.005-0.025 inch. The diaphragm may constitute the outlet from a container into which a fluid is introduced, the container being immersed in a liquid. The device may be used in chemical processes involving reacting a gas with a liquid, or in degassing liquids by blowing through an inert gas.
