Class 106 (2) Apparatus for inspecting the linear-dimensions of work-pieces comprises an indicating device 23 for co-operating with a plurality of gauging fixtures 25 each having a reference anvil and a moving anvil and being severally mounted upon a turret 24 rotatable relative to the indicating device 23 to cause any selected fixture 25 to co-operate therewith for gauging a corresponding dimension, the scale plate of the indicating device having depicted thereon a representation 33 of the work-piece showing the several dimensions to be inspected with a corresponding characteristic index reference 1-10 and also having marked thereon tolerance zones 34-37 for co-operating with the indicating needle 29, each zone having a characteristic colour or shading for identification, there being on each fixture means 40 showing the reference corresponding to the dimension the fixture is designed to gauge and the colour or shade 39 corresponding with the appropriate tolerance zone. The turret 24 is adjustably fixed to a plate 22 with its axis approximately perpendicular thereto so that' it can be rotated to bring any desired fixture 25 into register with an actuating plunger 26 of the indicating device 23 also supported by the plate 22. The scale plate or a segmental portion 32 thereof is removably secured by screws 50 and a window 27 is clamped by screws 31. Each fixture has removably secured thereto a strip 39 coloured to correspond with one of the tolerance zones 34 to 37 and superposed on each strip 39 is a removable transparent strip 40 bearing a reference numeral corresponding to the dimension 1 to 10 that is to be measured by the fixture.
