Abstract
712,456. Surgical tampons. BURYAN, E. F. March 25. 1952, No. 7644/52. Class 81(2) An absorptive tampon, such as may be inserted in the rectum following haemmorrhoidectomy, comprises a tubular length of cellulosic absorbent material rolled inwards within itself to form an outer section 10 and an inner section 11. The inner part 11 is drawn through so as to project slightly beyond the end of the outer part so that it may be gripped for withdrawal, during which process the tube gradually turns inside out and is drawn away from the walls of the body cavity without rubbing, which might result in re-opening a wound. The central channel 13 may be employed for introducing instruments or for drainage. The material of the tampon may be impregnated or coated with substances to retard absorption or coagulation and may be treated with antiseptic.
