Abstract
712,070. Stoppers. B.Z. PRODUCTS, Ltd., and GAZE, W. L. March 25, 1953 [March 26, 1952], No. 7786/52. Class 125 (3) A hollow stopper has a cup-like body 10 of polythene and a cap -like head 12 permanently attached thereto. A thin metal ring 15 is placed between the. shoulder 14 of the cap and the flange 11 of the body and while the parts are held together in the field of an induction coil, induction heating of the ring softens the polythene to effect a weld between the parts. In a modification (Fig. 3) the body 17 is of polythene and the head 16 of another material such as polystyrene or cellulose acetate. Induction heating of a ring 21 softens the edge of the body 17 and causes it to spread into the groove 19 in the head. In another modification (Fig. 4) the metal ring 27 has inwardly and outwardly directed prongs which become embedded in the material of the stopper parts when heated by electrical induction. In a further modification (Fig. 6) the stopper has a. body 30 and a head formed in two parts, a ring 32 and a disc 33 the three parts being united by adhesive.
