Abstract

711,303. Cooling-towers. MARLEY CO., Inc. Dec. 19, 1951, No. 29733/51. Class 64(1) In a cooling-tower comprising a packing 22 of slats over which water flows under gravity, means, e.g. a fan 20, at one end of the packing force through the packing an air current intersecting the direction of water flow; a structure 30 at the opposite end cf the packing receives the air current and directs it upwardly to a level above the packing; and a spray eliminator 34 within the structure, 30 intersects the path of the air current and removes water from the latter. A chimney 32 may be provided above the structure 30. A ring of packings and associated fans may be arranged around a central chimney; each packing may have an associated inclined spray eliminator, or a single horizontal spray eliminator may be provided above the level of packings.
