Abstract

711,275. Television pick-up tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1951 [Dec. 16, 1950], No. 30712/50. Class 39(1) An electric circuit arrangement employs a cathode-ray tube comprising an electron gun, a target having a signal electrode, and between the gun and the target an anode electrode and electromagnetic deflecting means surrounding the anode, wherein the anode is formed in two spaced annular parts and the deflecting means surrounds the anode part remote from the signal electrode, the circuit including means for maintaining each of the anode parts at substantially the same high direct potential, and means for effectively connecting the anode part nearer the signal electrode to earth for high frequencies whereby the pick-up of spurious signals by the signal electrode due to voltage fluctuations induced in the anode by the deflecting means is substantially reduced. As shown in Fig. 2 the anode may comprise two coatings 10 and 13 connected by a resistance 20 which may be a sensitive coating on the shoulder of the envelope. The coatings are thus at the same direct potential but high frequency currents induced in the coating 10 by the deflecting coils 17 are prevented from reaching the coating 13 and influencing the target 9. An exterior coating 21 connected to an earthed shield 19 may be provided to give a capacitive earth connection for the coating 13. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the resistance 20 is omitted and the coating 13 is connected through the envelope to an exterior strip conductor which extends along the envelope as far as the target electrode and is connected to an H.T. supply; a shield connected to the shield 19 surrounds the coating 13, the shoulder of the tube, and part of the coating 10. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the coating 13 is provided with a lead extending through the envelope and connected by a wire extending along the outside of the envelope to the lead-in conductor 12 which is connected to the coating 10; the wire may be enclosed in an earthed electrostatic screen. An ion trap grid may be connected to the coating 13.
